I have a new Facebook Fan page! And it’s great! It’s sort of addicting too, and I know it shouldn’t take the place of a proper blog, for for the moment, it totally has. Of course it doesn’t help that I’m somewhat rather addicted to facebook anyway.

I wanted to have some kind of monthly contest on my fan page, but it turns out that kind of a thing is a no-no with facebook, so I’m going to do a monthly contest on my blog instead — and just promote it on facebook. That works for everyone, right? Even the people who don’t have facebook.

My 3 card reading for 11-16-09

It seems as though my “fans” on FB are mostly people I know who aren’t tarot readers, but I know a lot of readers like to read this blog — so for this contest I’m offering the choice between two prizes! One person will win either:

  • A three-five card reading — online (pdf), in chat (Skype) or in person if you’re in the Richmond-area
  • A pretty handmade batik and hemp tarot bag like this one in the batik colors of my choosing

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below answering the following:

Tell me about your first experience having a tarot reading done for yourself. If you’ve never had your cards read, what has been holding you back?

If you’d like an additional entry, follow me on twitter (@melissajohill) and retweet the following:

RT @melissajohill Check out Mel’s tarot blog & win a free tarot reading or tarot bag! http://digg.com/u1GUxC

And for one final additional entry into my magical hat of names, post about this contest on your blog (make sure you link to this entry so I get a pingback!).

If you reblog or retweet this, please make a note in the comments too so I will put in your extra entries! :)

This contest will run from now till Nov. 30 — plenty of time to enter and spread the word. On Nov. 30 I’ll randomly draw a winner and notify that person via email. Good luck everyone!

My one and only experience with a reading went pretty bad. I was out and about in downtown Dallas and a lady was doing readings so I stopped to get one. It was done on the street, at night and the whole time the lady kept getting interrupted because some guys were hitting on her daughter. I walked away feeling yucky with the whole experience and did not gain anything from it. I’d like to change that.

    I did re-tweet on twitter!

Hi Melissa! I don’t have any experience yet simply because there were no tarrot readers around me. Born and grew up in Asia, other oriental method were more common and familiar to me. You are the first Tarrot reader I have come across!

I don’t have a blog so I will keep tweeting!

I’ve never had an in-person reading, just 5 or so readings over the years at AT. I wish I did know or know of someone locally who loves the cards as much as I do.

    Hi Melissa,

I would love to win one of your lovely bags, even though I am getting from you on AT.

Actually, I just had my first real reading done from Sunchariot, on AT. She did an amazing reading for me and my family regarding what we need to be focussing on right now. The reading was incredibly accurate and very healing. I loved it! I’ve done readings for myself or friends for years, and I don’t know why I have never had a professional reading before. After this recent experience, I’m planning on having more readings done in the future.

Well, my first reading was with a regular pack of cards. I was just a kid, and my friend’s grandmother read them for me. It was so exciting. She told me how my life was going to go! I don’t remember many details, but there were several Aces, and she said that was a really good thing.

My very first Tarot reading was done for me by a gal in Nashville, IN. years ago. It was terrible! She told me my husband was going to die before I did! I think she charged me $10 for the reading too! I have just recently started getting readings for myself again. I also read Tarot, for others, but can get to involved when I read for myself. I plan on getting more readings done in the future too. Everyone reads the cards differently, and this is a good thing! I learn alot just from having someone else read my cards.

My first reading was years and years ago…by my mother and I was in awe of the whole process and waited in anticipation as each card was turned over.

Well my first reading was..through ebay! I’ve been interested in tarot for a while but didn’t know how to get a reading so i tried ebay but chose the wrong reader, it was an automatic reading that i could have found online, thankfully there are a lot of people, even on ebay that can be trusted

Hi i have had a few tarot readings, all of which have been very accurate, things i forgot about and then when the happened i thought back and remembered that it was said in the reading, my 2nd child was one thing i was told about– i would have her within 18 months, thought no more of it and low and behold there she was 18 months later!! Lots of other stuff too. I am learning tarot at the moment, taking classes, and i dont know how i ended up doing it but here i am, id love a bag to put my first deck into!

My very first tarot reading was in high school. I don’t remember much of it except my friend had gotten the Zerner-Farber deck and was doing reading for fun. I thought the deck was pretty, but I’m not sure if the reading was accurate or not. However, it did inspire me to go out and buy my own deck to try.

Q: Tell me about your first experience having a tarot reading done for yourself. If you’ve never had your cards read, what has been holding you back?

A: My first and only reading was done by a very cute friend ;-) at her very cute house during a very cute Halloween party. I really wanted to ask her to read my cards but I was nervous because 1) I’d never done it before and 2) I didn’t really know the scope of the question to ask, i.e., vague & broad or as specific as possible. I finally settled on a question that had to do with “What’s next” for me, school/career-wise. She laid the cards out in the shape of the cardinal directions and explained why going–physically, spatially–in certain directions might be better than others. I loved the way she did this because it so directly translated to “real-life” advice. I was surprised by the suggestion that going West might not be the best idea–it would be “confusing”, I think she said–because I have been considering a really amazing grad school in California. Because I am (perhaps inordinately?) superstitious, I can no longer think about moving to California for school without remembering that she advised against it. :-) I think that the advice about not going South was spot-on–she said, memorably, that if I go South she sees a pregnancy. The hyper-feminine card was laid in that position and it made sense: I’m from Georgia, that’s where my family is, it would be easy to move there and settle down. But, of course, I’m far from ready for that. :-)

Her reading helped expand my thinking about these questions. It gave me a metaphysical perspective, one I hadn’t thought too much about in the process of writing all those “Pro” and “Con” lists. The best part was how totally nonjudgmental she was–I felt completely comfortable asking, and musing about, anything. I hope to have another, more substantive, reading soon. :-)

My very first tarot reading happened when I was 11 years old. My beautiful and older cousin had taken a class, and read for me with her RWS deck.
We decided that my card was the Queen of Cups, even though I was just a child.
I was completely enchanted, curious and asked her about what every card meant. I very much wanted a deck for my own.
Just last week, I had the opportunity to share my new deck creation with my cousin, and this time she was the one who was enchanted, and curious, and asked about every card!

Well when I had my first reading done, I couldn’t believe how on track it really was.It helped me to stay focused and to follow my heart.I was told that I was going to be doing some indepth studying…4 months later I was studying to become a EMT.Something I never thought of doing. By the way I love being a EMT.
